Use this guide when Tautulli has a separate history for each person and you want to move those histories into matching Emby or Jellyfin users. Plekt keeps each person’s history and connections in a separate Plekt user. The administrator can set up the accounts; friends do not need to sign in.

This requires Tautulli to distinguish the viewers. If everyone appears as one Tautulli user, Plekt cannot split that combined history into individual accounts.

Set up one Plekt user per friend

  1. Sign in to Plekt as an administrator and open Settings → Users.
  2. Expand Add user → New user, enter a username and starting password, and select Add user.
  3. Expand the new user in the list and choose Open to switch into that user’s Plekt instance. You can manage the instance yourself without giving your friend the Plekt login.

Repeat these steps for each friend. Complete the remaining steps inside the matching Plekt user’s instance each time.

Connect Emby or Jellyfin and import history

  1. In the friend’s Plekt instance, open Settings → Media servers and connect the Emby or Jellyfin account you created for them. See the Emby guide or Jellyfin guide for connection details.
  2. Open Settings → Connections and find Tautulli under One Time Imports. Enter your Tautulli server address and API key, test the connection, then select the Tautulli user for this friend.
  3. Preview the import. Confirm you selected the right Tautulli user, spot-check the history, and make sure the matching media server appears in the destination list. Review any ambiguous plays before continuing.
  4. Create the recommended watch-history backup, or skip it if you already have a recent one, then import the reviewed history.
  5. Check Sync Activity to confirm the imported watches were sent to Emby or Jellyfin.

The Tautulli import reads completed plays for the selected user and safely merges them into that Plekt user’s history. Importing again does not duplicate plays that Plekt already has. The preview shows which connected services will receive the imported watches, so review it before confirming. Since each Plekt user has separate connections, the connected Emby or Jellyfin account in this instance is the one Plekt sends this friend’s history to.

Import once more at the Plex handover

Tautulli is an import source only; it does not continuously sync new Plex watches into Plekt. After the friend stops using Plex and moves to Emby or Jellyfin, repeat the Tautulli import in that same Plekt user and select the same Tautulli user. This catches any Plex watches recorded since the previous import. Repeat for each friend, then use Emby or Jellyfin for their ongoing watch activity.
