Plekt keeps a separate watch event for every real viewing, so a rewatch is never lost. Sending the same event twice is collapsed, so a retry never adds a second play.
Works on
| App | Works | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plex | Yes | A rating event is ignored. Plex cannot take a historical play date, so a rewatch sent to it is stamped with the Plex server’s clock. |
| Emby | Yes | A bare “marked played” flag has no playback behind it, so on an item already watched it is dropped and never counted as a rewatch. |
| Jellyfin | Yes | Same as Emby. |
| Trakt | Yes | A receiving destination. A retried play is checked against Trakt’s history first. |
| Simkl | Not yet | Rewatches and unwatches stay disabled for Simkl. |
Why it differs. A real rewatch needs evidence of a new play, such as playback reaching the watched threshold. A played flag set by hand is not evidence, so Plekt will not turn it into a second viewing. Each destination also accepts plays differently: Plex has no historical-date setter and Simkl’s rewatch handling is switched off. Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin each hold one episode per show on their Up Next rails, so a rewatch card replaces the next episode there, while Plekt’s own Up Next shows both. See Rewatches in Up Next.

Real rewatch or duplicate?
- A new play at a later time is a rewatch. It stays visible in History and Stats.
- The same event arriving again from another route, such as a webhook and the next scheduled check, is a duplicate and is collapsed.
- A temporary Trakt failure is retried. Before a watched play is retried, Plekt checks Trakt’s history near that play’s time. If Trakt already accepted the first attempt, the retry is treated as delivered instead of adding another play.
Rewatches in Up Next
When your latest play is behind the furthest episode you have watched, and the episode after it is released and unwatched, that episode gets its own card in Up Next beside the show’s ordinary next episode.
Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin each hold one episode per show on their rails, so those rails follow the rewatch. The new episode stays in Plekt’s Up Next only. When you remove a show that has two cards, Plekt asks whether to hide just that card’s season or the whole show.
To change what counts as a watch, adjust the Watched Threshold in Sync tuning. If a play is missing, follow A watched event was not recorded.
