Users lets an administrator add more people to one Plekt server. Each user gets their own Plekt instance with separate watch history, connections, settings, backups, and webhook path. Shared artwork and metadata are reused across users.
Only administrators see Users. A standard user’s Settings shows their own account, appearance, media-server and personal connection settings, webhook setup, and sync history.
Each user needs their own accounts
Multi-user works only when every Plekt user has their own media-server accounts. Plekt tells users apart by the account that plays, so people who share one Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin login cannot be tracked separately: their watches land in one history.
- Give each person their own Plex account and their own Emby or Jellyfin user before adding them to Plekt.
- Each Plekt user connects only their own accounts. Plekt refuses a Plex account that is already connected to another Plekt user.
- Connect personal trackers such as Trakt or Simkl only to the matching Plekt user.
An administrator can open and configure each user’s instance without asking them to sign in. For separate Tautulli histories moving to individual Emby users, follow the Plex history migration guide.
Multi-user stats
The top card summarizes the server:
- Accounts, Running, Stopped, and Sign-in disabled counts;
- Open account, the instance open in your current session; and
- Process memory and Process uptime.
All accounts share one Node process, so memory is the process total, not per-user usage.
Add a user
- Expand Add user → New user.
- Enter a User name: letters, numbers, dashes, or underscores, 2 to 32 characters, starting with a letter or number.
- Enter a Starting password of at least 8 characters and select Add user.
- Give the password to the user. They can change it in Settings → General.
Plekt creates the user’s folder under data/users and their instance is ready immediately.
The user signs in with their own user name and password and sees only their own instance.
What each user sets up
- Media servers: each user connects their own accounts in Settings → Media servers. See Plex for how playback on a server another user owns appears in Now Playing.
- Webhooks: each user has their own webhook path,
/u/<name>/api/webhook, shown in their user row. Point that user’s senders at it; see Settings → Webhooks. - Sync: each user’s scheduled sync and queued jobs run independently, so one user’s backlog does not hold up another’s.
Manage a user
Expand a user in the account list to see their data folder, webhook path, and these options:
- Open switches your session into that user’s instance while it is running. The account picker stays available so you can switch back.
- Restart, Stop, and Start control the user’s instance. A stopped instance stops receiving webhooks until it is started again.
- Rename moves
data/users/<name>and changes the user’s webhook URL to/u/<new-name>/api/webhook. Update their media-server senders afterwards. - Reset password sets a new password of at least 8 characters and signs out their sessions.
- Access offers Sign out sessions and Disable sign-in (or Enable sign-in).
- Administrator access grants or removes full access to shared settings and user management. Changing it signs out that user’s existing sessions.
- Remove user asks for confirmation. Tick Also delete to remove their folder with all of their watch history, connections, and backups; shared artwork and metadata are kept.
The administrator account opens any user’s instance and manages users. It cannot be stopped,
disabled, renamed, or removed, and its data stays in the root data/ folder.
