Plekt is the new name for Plembfin. Upgrade your existing instance with its existing data; you do not need to create a new account, reconnect your media servers, or import your history. The steps below cover the v2.0.0 update.
Before you update
- In Settings → Backup, create a full encrypted backup and download a copy somewhere outside the application’s data folder. Keep its passphrase separately. A watch-history-only backup does not preserve all settings and personal lists.
- Record the current version, image tag or installer, dashboard port, data location, and
configuration. Keep your Compose file,
.envfile, or service configuration privately. - Stop the existing instance, then make a separate copy or snapshot of its entire data directory or volume. A stopped copy includes SQLite’s related files and the existing configuration needed for recovery. Do not copy only the database while the app is running.
- Keep that backup and the previous application version until the upgrade is verified.
Run only one instance against the data at a time. Do not rename the database:
an existing plembfin.db remains in use; only fresh installs create plekt.db.
Existing backups still restore, and PLEMBFIN_ environment settings remain accepted.
You can leave those settings unchanged during this update.
Docker Compose
Edit your existing Compose file in its existing project directory. Change the image name, preserving the service name, container name, volume mapping, credentials, and other settings. Keeping those names also avoids accidentally creating a new Compose-managed volume.
| Registry | Old image | New image |
|---|---|---|
| Docker Hub | plembfin/plembfin |
plembfin/plekt |
| GitHub Container Registry | ghcr.io/lasikiewicz/plembfin |
ghcr.io/lasikiewicz/plekt |
For the stable v2.0.0 update, use plembfin/plekt:2.0.0 or
ghcr.io/lasikiewicz/plekt:2.0.0. Keep your existing channel if you deliberately use an
alpha or develop tag. Both old image names continue receiving releases for at least six
months after the rebrand, so changing the image name can wait until you are ready.
For example, an existing service named plembfin can keep that name:
services:
plembfin:
image: ghcr.io/lasikiewicz/plekt:2.0.0
# Keep the existing volumes, ports, environment, and other settings here.
This is an image-change example, not a replacement Compose file. Your existing /data
mount must still point to the same host directory or named volume. Do not switch to a
new empty folder or volume, rename the Compose project, or run docker compose down -v.
From the same Compose directory, pull and recreate the existing service:
docker compose pull plembfin
docker compose up -d plembfin
docker compose logs --tail=100 plembfin
Replace plembfin in these commands with your actual Compose service name. Check the logs
privately; do not share credentials or tokens from your configuration.
Unraid and other container managers
Edit the existing container’s repository/image field to the new image and chosen tag,
then apply the update. Preserve its existing /data host path, environment settings,
and network configuration. You do not need to delete the container template or rename
the container. If a manager offers to remove its data or volumes, leave those intact.
Windows installer
After backing up and stopping the old instance, copy %ProgramData%\Plembfin to a separate
safe location. Use the Plekt installer from GitHub Releases
and run it as an administrator to upgrade the existing installation. Keep its detected
installation directory; do not uninstall and delete the old data first.
The installer retains the existing installation identity, replaces the old service with
the Plekt service, and moves %ProgramData%\Plembfin to %ProgramData%\Plekt. It also
updates the tray integration and shortcuts. The dashboard-port page is prefilled with
the existing port for an upgrade; keep it to preserve the current address, or choose 5056.
If both data folders already exist, setup stops without merging or overwriting them. Back up both and identify which contains the real instance before resolving the conflict; do not delete either just to make setup continue. If setup cannot stop the old service or move its data, follow the reported error and retry with the preserved data.
Node.js or a custom service
Stop the existing process or service and deploy the v2.0.0 release using your usual update
method. Keep the same data directory, .env file, credentials, and service environment.
If you launch from a new application directory, explicitly point DATA_DIR at the existing
data directory so the app does not start an empty instance. Install the release’s
dependencies with npm ci, then restart using your existing service or npm start.
Choose the dashboard port
For the simplest update, keep your current host port. Docker still listens on 5055
inside the container: an existing 5055:5055 mapping can stay in place. Set
PLEKT_PUBLISHED_PORT to the host port you actually use, such as 5055.
To move to the new default, use 5056:5055 and PLEKT_PUBLISHED_PORT=5056 in Docker.
For a custom Node.js service, preserve its explicit PORT value or set it to the port
you want; without an override, the new default is 5056.
Follow Moving to port 5056 if you change the address. Update
bookmarks, reverse-proxy upstreams, firewall rules, and each media-server
webhook URL. Existing webhook secrets and the older
X-Plembfin-Webhook-Secret header remain accepted.
Verify before resuming normal use
- Open your chosen dashboard address and sign in with the existing account. Check Settings → About reports v2.0.0.
- Check familiar watch history and resume progress, plus your Watchlist, Ratings, and Playlists.
- Check the configured media servers and other connections are present and reachable.
- Send a test webhook or play a short item on a connected server, then check Sync Activity for the expected event and delivery result.
- Check backup settings and create a fresh backup after the successful update. Retain the pre-upgrade copy until you are satisfied.
If you see Claim this Plekt instance or unexpectedly empty history, stop the app and
check its data mount or DATA_DIR first. Do not claim it, reconnect services, or start a
bulk sync to reconstruct data that should already be present.
If the update needs to be rolled back
Stop Plekt first and keep a separate copy of the post-upgrade data. Restore the pre-upgrade stopped data snapshot together with the matching previous application version and configuration. Do not assume an older version can safely use data already modified by a newer release, and never run both versions on the same data.
For Docker, restore the original volume contents and image tag. For Windows or a custom service, restore the matching data location, service configuration, and prior application version; obtain help if you are unsure which folder or service is authoritative. The Restore guide covers application backup recovery when a full encrypted backup is the recovery source.
